It took me till mid December to be appointed as administrator of Mom's estate in order to obtain her medical records. After getting the documentation, I requested the records from Hendersonville Health and Rehab and upon reviewing them noticed many discrepencies in what they reported and what I knew to be the truth. They didn't even have the right room number on her wristband or most of the records.
I then filed a complaint with the North Carolina Department of Social Services, nursing home liscensure division. They did their inspection on January 18 and 19 of this year. My brother also filed a complaint at the same time alleging more incidents than what I had reported. We both recieved a letter back on the same day and they both said the same thing, no defficiencies found.
I immediatly called the Western Regional Office of DHHS in Black Mountain and spoke to a Gail Maloney who is the regional director. She was not much help, at a meeting in Black Mountain we presented Ms. Maloney numerous documents that had the wrong information on them, incomplete and inaccurate medication logs and more. The most obvious thing was a statement signed by a Lara Mooney LPN stating one thing, and a signed notarized statement from my Moms roomate at the time stating something completly different. Both of theese pertaining to a fall that Mom had while at Hendersonville Health and Rehab. Lara Mooneys statement was a "late entry" composed and signed and dated the first week of December, almost a month to the day that Mom died. Ms. Maloney was somewhat indifferent as to what we showed her, but said they would do an administrative review of Moms case. Who would imagine after all the information we provided they wrote us again saying they found no discrepencies. Since then we have been doing our own "investigation" and what we have been able to find is enough to keep us up at night. Both afraid that we may someday end up in one of the local hospitals or rehab centers. More detailed information to follow.
Scary to imagine the future treatment will be falty...
