It is extremely frustrating to try to get information from a nursing home, it's almost like they just always lie. There are two people right now that could help me understand what happened to my mother at Hendersonville Health and rehab. The two I'm speaking about are both no longer working there. It's funny but anyone i need to talk to seems to relocate after they talk to me.
I've managed to track down the nurse that made a false statement about the night  Mom fell. Her name is Lara Mooney, and she is working at Fleishers Fairview Health care and Nursing home in Fairview NC.
The other is Jenniffer L. Thomas who was the records clerk that gave me the first set of  Moms records. She left for New Jersey right after I spoke to her. Seems suspicious. The others who know the truth that are still working at Hendersonville Health and Rehab are Cookie Romeo the Administrator and Susan Habel the director of nursing at Hendersonville Health and Rehab. Trying to call Lara Mooney, she wont return my calls. I am in the process of filing a complaint with the NC Board of nursing and a letter to the people she is working for now. More to follow.

Now lets discuss doctors. The doctor who saw my Mom at Hendersonville Health and Rehab is Dr. Larry J. Russell of Hendersonville. According to one website, he has five offices in Hendersonville. I have personally been by each one, and his name is no where on four of them. The only place you will find his name is on The WNC Family Medical Center.
He is also the medical director at The Laurels in Hendersonville and sees patients (victims) at almost all the Nursing Homes and Assisted Living Centers in Hendersonville. This according to his listing in the local health magazine in Thursday's edition of the Times News. He is also one of the owners of Hendersonville Health and Rehab and a contributor to pardee hospital. He also has privilages at Pardee Hospital as well as Park Ridge Hospital (part of the Adventist Health Network) in Fletcher NC,  I wonder how much time he has to actually see patients?

He is also associated with the Asheville Doctor that is currently in trouble with the Asheville Police Department, for his somewhat liberal use of his prescription pad. That would be one Dr. Edward J. Urban, turns out Dr. Larry Joe Russell was his mentor in order for him to recieve his liscence to practice medicine in NC., after having it revoked in Ohio for the same thing.

Dr. Larry Joe Russell of Hendersonville is also associated with a Physicians assistant, Todd Iverson Stone PA, that was reprimanded by the medical board for seeing patients and treating them without checking their medical history. I have heard from some locals that there was a little more than that going on, but i am only commenting on whats posted on the North Carolina Medical Board website.

More to follow.
Do you really know who your doctor is? You might be surprised to find out. You can check your doctor out on the NC Medical board website.Just out of curiosity check out your doctor.

Or ever feel you don't think the nurse really knows what she's doing, check nurses out on the nc board of nursing site.

Lara Mooney L.P.N. , one of Moms nurses at Hendersonville Health and Rehab had been written a letter of repremand for practicing nursing without a valid liscence. She was working for Hendersonville Pediatrics at the time. Seriuosly just a letter for practicing without a license!!

If you feel your doctor or nurse made a mistake in regards to your health I encourage you to report them to the board they answer to.

As for the DHHS check out the fines and violations for Henderson County.
http://www.ncdhhs.gov/dhsr/acls/adultcarepenalties.html#Henderson
Notice that the only facilities that have been fined are the small independent facilities. I can say without any doubt, that I witnessed some of those same things at Hendersonville Health and Rehab, and even reported them to the DHHS and they found no defficiencies( even though we left them with documented proof). Makes you wonder who's in who's pocket or pocketbook.

Would you believe that a person appointed by Senator Kay Hagan to be on the board of nursing home liscensure, owns several nursing homes in North Carolina and Virginia and appears to be connected to the group that owns Hendersonville Health and Rehab. His name is Gerald P. Cox, and he is from Rockymount NC.

I wonder why they found no defficiencies at Hendersonville Health and Rehab? I'm sure that it was nothing unethical or immoral or illegal. (sarcasam intended)

Just the tip of SanStone iceburg

It took me till mid December to be appointed as administrator of Mom's estate in order to obtain her medical records. After getting the documentation, I requested the records from Hendersonville Health and Rehab and upon reviewing them noticed many discrepencies in what they reported and what I knew to be the truth. They didn't even have the right room number on her wristband or most of the records.
I then filed a complaint with the North Carolina Department of Social Services, nursing home liscensure division. They did their inspection on January 18 and 19 of this year. My brother also filed a complaint at the same time alleging more incidents than what I had reported. We both recieved a letter back on the same day and they both said the same thing, no defficiencies found.
I immediatly called the Western Regional Office of DHHS in Black Mountain  and spoke to a Gail Maloney who is the regional director. She was not much help, at a meeting in Black Mountain we presented Ms. Maloney numerous documents that had the wrong information on them, incomplete and inaccurate medication logs and more. The most obvious thing was a statement signed by a Lara Mooney LPN stating one thing, and a signed notarized statement from my Moms roomate at the time stating something completly different. Both of theese pertaining to a fall that Mom had while at Hendersonville Health and Rehab. Lara Mooneys statement was a "late entry" composed and signed and dated the first week of December, almost a month to the day that Mom died. Ms. Maloney was somewhat indifferent as to what we showed her, but said they would do an administrative review of Moms case. Who would imagine after all the information we provided they wrote us again saying they found no discrepencies. Since then we have been doing our own "investigation" and what we have been able to find is enough to keep us up at night. Both afraid that we may someday end up in one of the local hospitals or rehab centers. More detailed information to follow.

No Defficiencies found!! SanStone facilities in NC, one star medicare rating!!

Do you have a relative or someone you care about in a nursing home or rehab facility, if so read on!
My mother Patricia was in a SanStone facility in Hendersonville NC called Hendersonville Health and Rehab. She was there to regain her strength and for physical and Occupational Rehab, following a removal of a benign tumor on her pituitary gland. She was doing well and gaining strength and improving. On the day she was supposed to come home I recieved a call at 5:07 am, stating that she was not breathing and had no pulse, they were trying to recussitate her. I rushed to the facility and she had been sent to Pardee Hospital by ambulance.
I arrived at Pardee Hospital just as the ambulance was taking her in. I went inside and was told to wait in the emergency waiting room. I called my wife and she and my eleven year old son left home to come meet me at Pardee Hospital. As I was waiting for them to arrive I was taken back to a small room where they told me mo mother had died. This was the beginning of my story. It has led my brother and I into a maze of doctors, nurses and businessmen with little or no morals. My next post will involve the NC DHHS and there response or lack of response and the corruption we are uncovering evry day. Saty tuned for more!!
